I took a few shots in the studio using one light box pointed down and some netting.
After looking at some ideas on google images I found out that people had a similar idea to what Somewhere Dark is. There were pictures of scary dolls, horror movie pictures and gothic people.
Here are a few examples:
These are all things that people fear things that put them out of their comfort zone.
These are some of my main ideas:
This one didn't turn out very well we had to poke the fingers quite hard through the fabric.
The idea behind these pictures was to portray someone trying to get out from beyond, from being lost behind an unbreakable wall. This is my favourite picture because there are 3 hands and it looks like something unnatural is trying to get through.
This is how the lights were set up for these pictures we used 2 light boxes for softer light in our photos.
My other idea was this:
To have a hand with a wedding ring on and netting like the vale on a wedding dress and to make it look like the person was dead.
This is my favourite one of these type shots. I love that you can see the ring really well and that it adds a chilly atmosphere to it because you know that there is something wrong.
I think I am going to use this picture for my final image, I love the way the netting has fallen over the arm and hand of the model and the way that the background is all black. I also like how the whole of the image is in focus.
This was a variation of the idea above of a kind of zombie bride picture. I used one light box for this and just had it pointed towards it.
This is my final image for Somewhere Dark.
I think it sums it up perfectly.
I don't think I will photoshop it because I think it looks great as it is.
Though I will have a look and see what effects I can combine it with.
I started by using the 'Quick Selection Tool' to highlight the background so that I could only draw there. Then I used the 'Dodge Tool' and put the 'Range' on 'Shadows' then put the 'Exposure' to 50% then drew in the back ground:
Then went up to 75% and drew in the background again. This made the background lighter and have more texture. Here is the finished picture:
It has highlighted the curtain behind it so I don't think I will use it because I liked it went it just looked all black. But it does look like an old style picture.
Like this.
